Thermals

All tests are running fixed fan speeds with the ambient temperature recorded at the start of each test.

Sound levels are measured at a distance of 30 cm, with the sound meter placed off-axis at a 45° angle. This raises the noise floor for more accurate readings and matches the “direction” of the user.

The RX 9070 XT is running with a set power limit of 254W and a negative voltage offset of -50mV / -80mV and +200Mhz on the memory clock.

The 9800X3D is tuned with an all core negative Curve Optimizer value of -20.

Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert TETRA S 9070XT

Crimson Desert is a graphically intensive open world game that features ray tracing.

I found this title to be particularly sensitive to undervolt settings, requiring a less aggressive negative voltage offset (-50mV) compared to other titles I’ve tried on Linux (-80mV).

Results are over a 20 minute static-scene soak test, running at 4K with FSR 4.1 Balanced and Frame Generation with most settings on Cinematic/Ultra.

The full log can be found here.

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders TETRA S 9070 XT

ARC Raiders is a mulitplayer game that’s particularly hard on CPU thermals, perfect for testing the limits of the low profile cooler used in this build.

Results are over a one hour session, running at 4K with FSR4 Balanced and Static GI.

The full log can be found here.

Logs

Full logs of all my testing on this particular build can be found here.

Check them out if you want to deep dive into the data.

I’ve also included two stock vs. undervolt tests (Crimson Desert, God of War Ragnarok).
